WAL-MART FACING CLASS-ACTION SUIT ALLEGING IT PUT LIMITS ON MEDICAL CARE FOR INJURED WORKERS

Posted by Brandon J Burton on 07/21/2010

The Wall Street Journal reports that in Colorado, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is facing a class-action suit claiming that it conspired to put limits on medical care for injured workers for financial reasons. The suit, which was filed last year in US District Court for Colorado, accuses Wal-Mart and American Home Assurance Co. of breaking federal and state laws by using Claims Management Inc., to manage treatment for employees injured in the workplace. Injured employees were then sent to Concentra, Inc. which runs workplace clinics in many states. The suit alleges that the plaintiffs conspired to dictate medical care for injured employees, a violation of Colorado worker's compensation law.
